Yoga for Grownups
Safe, Smart and Fun.
Safe Practice
I am interested in yoga as a form of intelligent movement that reconnects us to the joy of being alive in our bodies. Fundamental to relaxing and having fun is knowing that you are safe.
Listen To Your Body
I think of myself as a relationship counselor for people and their bodies. Some people come to class disconnected, no longer knowing how to get back the joy and confidence they used to experience. Tired and in pain, they see their bodies as separate from themselves. My classes get people listening to their bodies and finding pleasure and joy in the connection.
Simple, Intelligent Movement
Sessions begin with lying down and simply breathing. In the stillness and quiet we begin to sense and feel our bodies. We are confronted with our animal selves; with the bald miracle of our physicality and the joy and wonder of it. We start to move in a way that is simple, easy and fundamentally pleasurable enough to make us want to repeat the movements, and with curiosity, extend and explore them.
Unfold from the Core of the Spine
Poses and movements begin to unfold from the core of the spine, and the rhythm of the breath. Simple movement offers us a direct experience of our anatomy and our habitual movement patterns. We rediscover the laws of bio-mechanics and engineering as we experienced them through play as children. We explore the way we learned to move as babies when we were free from ambition and notions of correctness, when we were still connected to the sheer joy of being alive in our bodies. We connect with the intuitive wisdom of the body, and nurture our innate capacity to heal through simple, joyful movement.
Our only goal is to take our renewed awareness into our daily activities.
Fall in Love Again
When the session is over we are back in love. We remember the joy, we trust and respect the intelligence of our bodies; we breathe like we are in love and on vacation.
